collaboration with Team McGregor + David August for McGregor vs Mayweather fight

The cat (or the tiger?) is out of the bag.
Recent collaboration with bespoke clothing brand David August for McGregor vs Mayweather fight (August 27, 2017) is finally official.
David August was designing the whole Team McGregor outfit (including Conor McGregor himself, of course!) for the event, and asked me to illustrate a tiger head inspired by McGregor’s new tattoo. As you can see in David August and their marketing director Michael Montanez’s Instagram photos, the image was used on the team corner crew’s custom vests during the event.
Art direction was by Thomas O’Quinn of OQuinn Design.
Thank you David August and Tom O’Quinn for this great opportunity!

hello India! I am coming.

Hello hello India! I will be in your country for the first time ever. This is also the longest flight I have ever taken, and probably a most adventurous trip ever as I have never been to that part of the world. A lot of first evers, and I am very excited. There will be three events in three different cities while I am there.

1. Kyoorius Designyatra
First is the big design conference everyone in creative industry in India know about. I am very honored to be invited to participate in this year’s event. It will be held between September 29- October 1. The new venue this year will be in Jaipur. You can learn more about the conference and book your tickets here

2. Tales on Tweet book release events
Local editor/writer Manoj Pandey and I collaborated on his book, Tales on Tweet, a coffee table book of the world’s shortest short stories in 140 characters. The book was just released from Harper Collins India, and include many high-profile authors including Salman Rushdie and Margaret Atwood.
We will be doing two book events in two different cities during my stay. Hope to see you there!

A. Tales on Tweet book event in Darjeeling
The Lounge, Elgin Silver Oaks, Kalimpong, Darjeeling,  October 3,  2:00PM, free and open to the public.

B. Tales on Tweet book event in Delhi
The Toddy Shop
, Hauz Khas Village, Delhi, October 6, 7:00PM, free and open to the public.

Women in Sci-fi & Fantasy art show opens this week in NY

There will be a nice summer exhibit opening at the Society of Illustrators in New York. The show is titled: Point of Vision –Celebrating Women Artists in Fantasy and Science Fiction– . The show is curated by two acclaimed female art directors in the field, Irene Gallo of Tor.com and Lauren Panepinto of Orbit Books.
I am not exactly who you think as a fantasy (or sci-fi) artist, but I do work in the field here and there, and my work is known to be surreal. So, the curators were kind enough to include some of my works in the exhibit. They let the artists pick our own, thus, I decided to show two original black and white drawings, as well as one color print.

The show will be up from now till August 20, 2016 at the Society of Illustrators (128 E, 63rd St @Lexington Ave, New York), and there will be opening reception on Friday, June 10 from 6:30PM. Hope you can come see the show. And if you are coming to the opening, I will see you then.

signing + talk event in Books Kinokuniya NY

UPDATE: Books Kinokuniya New York has small number of signed copies in stock. Please call  (212) 869-1700 to check availability and to place an order. They can ship within US, but not abroad.

My new book Living with Yuko Shimizu has finally hit the Stateside after a bit of a delay. So, we are having a signing and talk event here in NY. Japanese bookstore Books Kinokuniya of Midtown Manhattan is kind enough to host the event.

Living with Yuko Shimizu (published by ROADS Publishing of Ireland, not written by my dog Bruiser) is a collection of carefully selected 32 images which are printed on thick and sturdy paper. Each image can be torn out from the book and can be turned into art to hang on your wall.

The book is dedicated to friend and art director SooJin Buzelli, because half of the 32 images in the book was initially created for various magazines she art directs. So, for this event, I asked SooJin to have a talk in front of audience about illustrations, art directions, etc, etc.  I hope this event would be fun for not just those who are interested in my work or my book, but also for those who are interested in broader field of illustration and art direction.

Books Kinokuniya NY: 1073 Avenue of the Americas (between 40 & 41 St.)
May 28 (Saturday) from 3:00PM
free admission

MAD Magazine Spy vs Spy receives Silver Medal from Society of Illustrators, and other news

Society of Illustrators’ annual exhibit Illustrators 58’s Book and Editorial Show just opened today. I am very honored to be receiving a silver medal for an illustration I worked with MAD Magazine‘s famous characters Spy vs Spy. The image was created for a special hardbound book Spy vs Spy An Explosive Celebration which came out late last year. Big thank you to the AD Ryan Flanders.

Opening reception and award ceremony will be held on Friday February 5. Unfortunately I will be out of the country this time, but it is such a great party every year, and so if you can, you should go. Ryan will be there to receive his medal.

The other works I have in this show are as follows (from top to bottom): two black and white drawings from the book A Wild Swan (client: Michael Cunningham and FSG), Batman cover for DC Comics (AD: Rachel Gluckstern), Little Nemo Dream Another Dream (client: Locust Moon Press), two editorial works Kiddy Pool Emergency and Frozen Kids for Asset International (AD: SooJin Buzelli) Thank you all my clients, The Society, judges, and everyone else who’s been so very supportive of my work.
